Overview

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued a notice dated 1 October 2026 that fixes the computer-based examination (CBE) dates for three of its 2026 recruitments: the Junior Engineer Examination, the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces Examination, and Tier-I of the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination (CHSL). For candidates who have already applied, this turns a vague “October–December” expectation into a concrete revision deadline.

Below you will find the confirmed dates in one place, followed by the points from each exam notice that matter most now: paper pattern, negative marking and when the admission certificate is expected. The CHSL application window is still open, so that section also covers what fresh applicants should keep in mind.

The CHSL 2026 online application closes on 07 October 2026 at 23:00 hours. Full eligibility, fee and vacancy details are covered in our earlier post: SSC CHSL 2026 Recruitment.

Junior Engineer Examination 2026: What Paper-I Looks Like

The JE 2026 notice lists 1,748 tentative vacancies at Pay Level-6 (Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400). The online application window closed on 22 September 2026, and SSC had stated in a separate notice on 17 September that no extension would be given.

Total200 / 200
  • Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe).
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Paper-I is qualifying. Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II on merit, provided they cross the minimum qualifying marks.
  • Paper-II is a separate CBE of 100 questions carrying 300 marks, with a deduction of one mark per wrong answer, so careless guessing is far more costly there.
  • The notice says admission certificates will be downloadable 3–4 days before the examination.

SI in Delhi Police and CAPFs 2026: What to Expect

Applications for this exam closed on 30 September 2026 and fee payment closed on 01 October 2026. The posts carry Pay Level-6 (Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400).

  • The whole paper lasts 1 hour, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each part. You cannot carry unused time from one part to another, so practise under the same timing.
  • A wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
  • Paper-I is followed by the Physical Standard Test and Physical Endurance Test (qualifying), then Paper-II and a medical examination.
  • Admission certificates are to be made available 2–3 days before the examination.

CHSL 2026 Tier-I: Key Points

  • Four sections: English, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness, each with 25 questions worth 50 marks (200 marks in total).
  • Time allowed: 60 minutes.
  • Negative marking: 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Minimum qualifying marks in Tier-I: 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for all other categories.
  • Admission certificates are expected 2–3 days before the examination.

How to Download the Admission Certificate When It Is Released

  1. Go to the official SSC website, ssc.gov.in.
  2. Log in with the registration number and password you used for your application.
  3. Open the admit card / admission certificate section and select the examination.
  4. Check every detail, download the PDF and take a clear printout. Keep a second copy.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting for the last day of the CHSL application window, when the website is usually under heavy load.
  • Practising CPO or CHSL mock tests without the right timer – the CPO paper now has strict 15-minute sections.
  • Treating JE Paper-I as a formality. It is qualifying, but only those who rank high enough reach Paper-II.
  • Relying on forwarded “admit card links”. Download only from ssc.gov.in.

What Happens Next

SSC will release admission certificates a few days before each exam, as mentioned above, followed later by provisional answer keys and results. We will add separate updates when these are published.
