Update (08 October 2026): The online application window closed on 7 October 2026. The next stage is online fee payment for those who submitted the form (open until 11 pm on 8 October 2026), then the correction window from 14 to 16 October 2026, and after that the Tier-I exam, which SSC has scheduled to begin on 30 November 2026. We will update this page when the admit card or result is released.
Overview
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is accepting online applications for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026, commonly called SSC CHSL. For candidates who have passed Class 12, this exam is the main route into clerical and data entry jobs in central government ministries and offices. The notice mentions about 2,536 tentative vacancies. SSC has said the final number will be settled later, so the figure can still change.
The online form opened on 7 September 2026 and closes on 7 October 2026 at 11 pm. If you still plan to apply, try to finish a few days early instead of waiting for the last evening, when the portal usually gets slow.
Age limit: 18–27 years (as on 01.08.2026); relaxation OBC 3, SC/ST 5, PwBD 10 years

The total is roughly 2,536 posts. This notice does not give a post-wise split, and SSC does not keep state-wise or zone-wise figures. Anyone who needs those numbers has to ask the departments that will actually do the hiring.
Eligibility
- LDC/JSA and most DEO posts: Class 12 or an equivalent exam passed from a recognised board.
- DEO and DEO Grade ‘A’ posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, in SSC itself and in the Ministry of Culture: Class 12 passed in the science stream, and Mathematics must be one of your subjects.
- The qualification must be in hand by 7 October 2026, the closing date. If your Class 12 result will come after that date, you cannot use it for this cycle.
Age Limit
Age is counted as on 1 August 2026. The general range is 18 to 27 years, so your date of birth should fall between 2 August 1999 and 1 August 2008, with both dates allowed.
- OBC: 3 extra years
- SC/ST: 5 extra years
- PwBD: 10 extra years
Ex-servicemen and a few other groups have separate relaxation rules. Check the full relaxation table in the notice before you apply.
Application Fee
- Rs 100 for candidates who are not in an exempted group.
- No fee for women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates.
- Payment is only online: BHIM UPI, net banking, or a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay debit card.
Selection Process
The exam has two computer-based stages, followed by document verification.
- Tier-I: 100 objective questions for 200 marks in four sections of 25 questions each. The total time is 60 minutes, with a separate 15-minute timer for each section, and 0.50 marks are deducted for every wrong answer.
- Tier-II, Section I: Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning/General Intelligence.
- Tier-II, Section II: English Language and Comprehension, and General Awareness.
- Tier-II, Section III: Computer Knowledge Test, which is qualifying only.
- Tier-II, Section IV: a skill test for DEO posts or a typing test for LDC/JSA, also qualifying only. The typing speed needed is 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi.
How to Apply
- Open https://ssc.gov.in in your browser. An old registration made on ssc.nic.in will not work here, so create a new One-Time Registration (OTR) on the current website if you have not done so already.
- Log in with your OTR number and password and find the CHSL 2026 form in the Apply section.
- Enter your personal, educational and category details exactly as printed on your certificates.
- Select three exam centres in order of preference. All three have to be in one SSC region.
- When the form asks for a photo, allow camera access. The photo is taken live, so sit facing the camera in good light against a plain wall.
- Upload your signature, read the preview line by line, and then submit.
- Pay the fee, if it applies to you, before 11 pm on 8 October 2026, and save a copy of the submitted form.
Documents Needed
Keep these ready before you start the form:
- Class 10 certificate (proof of date of birth)
- Class 12 marksheet or certificate
- Caste or EWS certificate in the prescribed format, if you are claiming reservation
- Disability certificate, if you are applying as PwBD
- Aadhaar or another valid photo ID
- A scanned signature
- A mobile number and email ID that you check regularly, since OTPs and updates come there
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Trying to log in with an ssc.nic.in registration. Make a fresh OTR on ssc.gov.in.
- Applying for a DEO post in the three departments listed above without Mathematics in Class 12.
- Typing a name or date of birth that does not match your Class 10 certificate. Such mismatches often surface at document verification and can cost you the job.
- Choosing centres from different regions. The form only allows centres within one region.
- Paying in the final hour. If money is deducted but the form still shows the fee as unpaid, wait some time and check the status again before paying a second time.
- Taking the live photo in a dim room, which can lead to a blurry or unclear image.
What Happens Next
After the last date, SSC will open the correction window from 14 to 16 October 2026, so you can fix errors in your form during those three days. The Tier-I schedule has not been announced yet; it will be posted on ssc.gov.in. Closer to the exam, SSC normally shares exam city details and admit cards through the candidate login. Those who clear Tier-I move to Tier-II, and those who clear Tier-II along with the qualifying computer and skill or typing tests are called for document verification before posts are allotted.
