Overview
The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for five more years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The decision was announced through a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release on 31 July 2026, with a total outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore for this period.
For farmer families already receiving the money, nothing changes in how the benefit works: eligible landholding families keep getting ₹6,000 a year, paid straight into their bank account. This page explains what the scheme gives, who can and cannot get it, and the simple checks every beneficiary should do so that no instalment gets stuck.

How the ₹6,000 Is Paid
The yearly amount is split into three equal parts of ₹2,000 each. The money goes directly from the government to the bank account linked with the farmer’s Aadhaar, so no middleman or agent is involved at any stage. If anyone asks you for a fee to “release” your instalment, treat it as a fraud and report it.
Who Can Get the Benefit
The scheme is meant for landholding farmer families whose names appear in the land records of their state or union territory. A family here generally means husband, wife and minor children. The land details are verified by the state government before a name is added.
Who Is Not Eligible
The scheme guidelines leave out families where a member falls in a higher-income group. Common exclusions include:
- Institutional landholders (for example, land owned by a trust or company)
- Current or former holders of constitutional posts, ministers, MPs, MLAs and similar elected office holders at higher levels
- Serving or retired officers and employees of central or state governments and PSUs (Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D employees are not excluded)
- Retired pensioners getting a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more (with the same staff exception)
- People who paid income tax in the last assessment year
- Registered professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects who are practising
If you are unsure whether your family qualifies, read the eligibility section on pmkisan.gov.in or ask your local agriculture office. Wrongly taken benefits can be recovered later.
Checks Every Beneficiary Should Do
Most delayed payments happen because of a small pending step. Make sure all of these are complete:
- e-KYC done: the official website says e-KYC is mandatory for every registered farmer. It can be completed online on the PM-KISAN portal, through the official PM-KISAN mobile app, or biometrically at a Common Service Centre (CSC).
- Aadhaar linked to bank account: payments go through DBT, so the account must be Aadhaar-seeded and active.
- Land records verified: your land details must be checked and approved by the state.
- Name spelling matches: the name in Aadhaar, the bank account and the land record should be the same.
How to Check Your PM-KISAN Status
- Open the official website pmkisan.gov.in.
- In the Farmers Corner, choose the option to know your status.
- Enter your registration number, or use the option to find it with your mobile number or Aadhaar.
- Type the captcha, request the OTP and enter it.
- Your screen shows instalment history along with the status of e-KYC, land seeding and Aadhaar-bank seeding. Anything marked pending needs action.
What to Do If an Instalment Is Missing
- First check the status page and finish any pending e-KYC, land seeding or bank seeding.
- Visit your bank branch to confirm the account is active and Aadhaar-seeded for DBT.
- Raise a query through the Helpdesk form or the Kisan eMitra chatbot on pmkisan.gov.in, or contact the agriculture department office of your block or district.
- Use the grievance option on pmkisan.gov.in and keep the complaint number safe.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Downloading look-alike apps or using unofficial websites that ask for Aadhaar or bank details
- Paying an agent to “register” or “release” an instalment
- Ignoring the e-KYC message until a payment stops
- Changing the bank account without updating it in PM-KISAN records
