Age Calculator for Government Jobs

Find your exact age in years, months and days on any date, and check whether you meet the age limit of a government job. Enter your date of birth and the cut-off date given in the notification.

Check eligibility for a job (optional)

Relaxation used: OBC +3, SC/ST +5, PwBD +10 / +13 / +15 years – the usual Central Government rule. State jobs and some posts follow different rules; always check your notification.

How Age Is Counted in Government Jobs

Every recruitment notice fixes one cut-off date, written as “age as on” a particular day. Your age is counted on that day only, not on the day you fill the form or the day of the exam. Two candidates born a day apart can therefore fall on different sides of the limit.

Most notices also print the exact date range, for example “born not before X and not later than Y”. That range is final. Different recruiters treat the last day slightly differently, which is why the calculator shows a warning when you are exactly at the upper limit.

Usual Age Relaxation (Central Government)

CategoryExtra years on upper age limit
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)3 years
SC / ST5 years
PwBD (General / EWS)10 years
PwBD (OBC)13 years
PwBD (SC / ST)15 years
EWSNo relaxation

Ex-servicemen, central government employees, widows and some other groups get separate relaxation that depends on the post and their service. State government jobs follow their own rules, and some recruitments (for example certain bank or contract posts) do not give the same relaxation. Always read the age section of your notification.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth exactly as written on your Class 10 certificate.
  2. Enter the cut-off date (“age as on” date) from the notification. If you leave it empty, today’s date is used.
  3. To check eligibility, open “Check eligibility for a job”, type the minimum and maximum age from the notice and choose your category.
  4. Press Calculate Age to see your exact age and whether you fall within the limit.

On our job posts you will find a “Check your age” button. It opens this calculator with the age limit and cut-off date of that job already filled in, wherever the notice gives one simple age range.

Common Mistakes

  • Using today’s date instead of the cut-off date given in the notice.
  • Using the date of birth from a document other than the Class 10 certificate. Recruiters go by the matriculation certificate.
  • Assuming the same relaxation applies to state jobs as to central jobs.
  • Applying when you are exactly at the upper limit without checking the “born not before” date in the notice.
